Defining Roles
Participants on any project will fulfil specific roles at various stages of a project. Within the Toolkit the terminology used for these roles depends on the project template that has been initially selected. For example, the RIBA Plan of Work template has roles such as ‘Architect’ and ‘Civil engineer’ whereas when the CIC template these roles are ‘Architectural design’ and ‘Civil engineering design’.

Select the "Roles" tab on the project navigation bar to view the roles for a particular Stage.
Adding additional Roles
As well as having pre-defined roles for each stage in your project, you can also add a number of additional roles to any stage in the project.
Adding a custom role
You can add a custom role to any stage of your project.
How to assign a role to an organisation
To assign a role to an organisation, firstly you need to add participants to your project. See the Defining Participants help page for more information on how to do this.
Copying roles
Copy roles from one stage to the next by navigating to the page you wish to copy to and clicking the “Copy from stage #” button. This button will only be active if no organisations have been assigned on the current stage and if there are roles/organisations to copy over on the previous stage.

Note: Copying roles will also copy any organisations linked to those roles.
Sorting roles
If you have a long list of roles at a particular stage, clicking the Roles or Participants column heading will sort the chosen column alphabetically, A-Z or Z-A.

Can I delete a role?
You can't delete a role from your project, however you can mark the role as "Not required". To do this, hover over the role and check the box next to the drop-down menu.

This will mark the role as not required for this specific stage. However, this role may be included at a subsequent stage. For example, there would not be a Contract Administrator at Stage 0, but this role will probably exist at Stage 5.
